Maiqui and Joey: Iron Wills and Compassionate Hearts
2008-09-02
Another September, another chance to celebrate the birthday of Gabriel, and another shot at helping out numerous children with physical and mental challenges.

And true to form, Maiqui Dayrit is once again coming up with another Ironman during the event. Joining him this year is Joey Torres, one more athlete signing up to do the 3.8km Swim, 180km Bike, and 42km Run distances to raise funds for their child beneficiaries.

After three successive years of doing the overwhelming ironman distance triathlon for Gabriel's Symphony and raising substantial funds in the process, Maiqui finally did an officially sanctioned Ironman race last February in Langkawi, Malaysia, so this will be his second one for 2008.

At 44, Joey carries an 8-pack. He has shed over twenty pounds, runs a 47min 10k. He is Pia's training partner. They trained and did their first Ironman together in Western Australia last Dec 2007. Ever grateful for this gift of fitness, Joey decided to run an Ironman distance triathlon to raise funds for disabled and disadvantaged children.

For these two Ironmen, it's not just about logging in the longest mileage for the day but about raising awareness for the cause and the having the satisfaction of being able to do the sport they love and make a lot of children healthier as a result.

We at Gabriel's Symphony laud the efforts of Maiqui and Joey and hope that you will also support their efforts in making this a better place for children.
