Bike for Hope was started by Pia S. Cayetano in 2003 in memory of her late father, Senator Rene Cayetano. Many will remember the elder Cayetano as the Compañero ng Bayan who gave free legal advice on TV and radio, but he was also a health buff who played a number of sports and instilled in his kids the value of embracing a healthy lifestyle.
Bike for Hope envisions a healthy citizenry through education, promotion of a healthy lifestyle and advocating care for the environment. One of the core advocacies of Bike for Hope is road safety, which is borne out of Pia’s shared experiences with fellow cyclists.
For more than a decade, Bike for Hope has brought together bikers in different cities and provinces across the country to promote road safety, environmental awareness and healthy living. Bike for Hope has been held in Baguio, Cebu, La Union, Ilocos, Cagayan De Oro, Laguna, Camarines Sur, Davao, Bacolod and Palawan.
This year, we are going back to Davao to promote our advocacies by linking up with the growing cycling community in the region.
Our Bike for Hope Davao is a 50 km ride from Davao City to Tagum City passing through Panabo City and the Municipality of Carmen. Bikers also have the option to make it a 100 km ride by going back to the starting point in Davao City. This will be held on Sunday, 22 January 2017 and will start at 6:00 AM. We are expecting around 200 bikers to join the ride which will be led by Pia S. Cayetano.
