For twelve years now, Gabriel’s Symphony has passionately pursued its advocacy of making a difference in children’s lives and building grassroots sports programs from the ground up. Senator Pia S. Cayetano founded GSF in memory of her son, Gabriel, who was born with a rare chromosomal disorder and passed away at the tender age of nine months.
Gabriel’s Symphony has an annual 12-Hour Multi-Sport Celebration in memory of Gabriel. This fundraising event supports the Foundation’s various year-round projects for differently-abled and less privileged children, specifically free left clip and palate operations and grassroots sports projects.
Throughout the years, Gabriel’s Symphony has gradually grown in scale and in scope. For its 12th anniversary, Gabriel’s Symphony brought its annual fundraising event all the way to Cebu. The event was originally scheduled for December 2014, but was postponed because Typhoon Ruby hit Central Visayas. The Multi-Sport Celebration pushed through last February 28 to March 1, 2015, at the Abellana Sports Complex, Cebu City.
The festivities included the Kids Triathlon Camp conducted by the National Triathlon Team Coach Melvin Fausto, where kids eased into triathlon, learned the basics of the sport, and improved triathlon-specific skills. We also held a Football Fiesta in cooperation with Coach Chieffy Caligdong of Football Para sa Bayan, which featured girls’ and boys’ football teams of different age groups from Cebu.
Gabriel’s Symphony also organized several seminars in Cebu, which pushed through in December 2014 despite the postponement of the sports activities. These included Maternal and Child Health Seminars, as well as Diabetes and Nutrition Seminars in Cebu Technological University, Cebu Normal University and Cebu City Hall. Gabriel’s Symphony was also the first to reach the hilly lands of Mountain Barangay, Cebu, where we also arranged a Maternal and Child Health Seminar for the residents of the town. We also held patient screenings and the Smile Train Operation in St. Anthony Maternal and Child Hospital, Cebu City.
Each year, Gabriel’s Symphony reaches out to more and more children with a vision of holistic child development. In memory of Gabriel, we continue to work towards our ultimate goal of making a difference in the life of every differently-abled child.
