Gabriel’s Symphony

‘Let’s Read’ program launched in Taguig

Children should be encouraged to learn to read at an early age to prepare them for school and to open their minds to fresh ideas and help develop creative thinking in them.

With this objective in mind, The Gabriel’s Symphony Foundation (GSF) and Senator Pia Cayetano led on Thursday (July 14) an activity seeking to promote reading among young children in a poor community in Taguig City.

Dubbed “Let’s Read!,” the activity consisted of a book reading session and the donation of story and activity books for a community library for the pre-school children of Sitio 3, Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

The activity is a joint effort of the senator, together with Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano and Brgy. Fort Bonifacio Chair Lino Cayetano.

Over a hundred children, aged 3-6 years old, together their parents took part in the activity which was highlighted by a story-telling session led by the senator held at the community basketball court. Sen. Pia read two books written by her mother, Sandra Schramm Cayetano, a retired pre-school teacher and children’s book author.

This was followed by a reading session at the Sto. Nino de Bonifacio Early Childhood Care and Development Center where Sen. Pia turned over several copies of story books for the children while Mayor Lani donated school bags containing school supplies and a grooming kit, to the delight of the children, their parents and teachers.
